Prepare WordPress for WPPasteKit
Before you paste your first design, check a few things in WordPress. It takes five minutes and saves you a confusing first hour.
What you need
- WordPress 6.0 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer.
- An administrator account.
- A theme you are happy with, or the optional WPPasteKit Blank theme.
- An AI tool that writes HTML, CSS and JavaScript, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini or v0.
Check that your account can save raw HTML
A pasted design contains <style> and <script> elements. WordPress only lets users with the unfiltered_html capability save those. On a normal single-site install, administrators have it. On a multisite network, only network administrators have it.
Some hosts and security plugins switch it off for everyone, for example with the DISALLOW_UNFILTERED_HTML constant in wp-config.php. If WPPasteKit warns you on the edit screen that your account lacks this capability, that is usually the reason. Ask your host, or check the settings of your security plugin.
Other users do not need it. Editors get a content-only screen where they change texts without touching the code.
Choose readable permalinks
Go to Settings > Permalinks and choose a structure with readable URLs, such as Post name. Links like /about/ are easier to use in your menus and designs than /?p=12.
Have your details ready
WPPasteKit prints your logo, email address, phone number and address wherever a design asks for them. Keep them at hand: you enter them right after installing, in the next step.
